InfiniteEARTH is matching up to $100,000 in donations to OFI
Once numbering in the hundreds of thousands, the orangutan is today an IUCN-listed Endangered Species with approximately 50,000 scattered orangutans located in fragmented ranges in Borneo and Sumatra.
The destruction of tropical forests is pushing the orangutan species closer to extinction every day. Over the past 20 years, 90% of the world’s orangutan habitat has been destroyed.
Without intervention, orangutans could be extinct as populations in the wild in less than two decades.
It is estimated that every minute of every day in Indonesia, an area of biodiverse forest the size of five football fields is slashed and burned. Thousands of Bornean species, including orangutans, gibbons, proboscis monkeys, false gharials, and others, are rapidly losing their forest habitat.
Orangutan Foundation International
Orangutan Foundation International (OFI) has been working to save orangutans in Borneo, Indonesia, since 1986. OFI cares deeply about conservation and animal welfare, and have protected more than 1.5 million acres of rainforest habitat and saved hundreds of captive and orphaned orangutans from death or a dire life in captivity – giving them a second chance to grow up and be free.
InfiniteEARTH’s Rimba Raya
Tropical peat swamp forests like Rimba Raya are known to host some of the world’s most biodiverse habitats and are among the world’s largest repositories of carbon.
We form a vital patrolled buffer zone between the ever-encroaching bulldozers of the palm oil industry and the Tanjung Puting National Park, home to OFI and one of the last remaining wild populations of orangutans on earth.
Help celebrate the Field Conservation Partnership between the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve (an InfiniteEARTH Project) and Orangutan Foundation International, who are working closely together in Borneo to save rain forest near Tanjung Puting National Park in Central Kalimantan (Indonesia) Borneo.
Donate to OFI through Rimba Raya and your gift will be matched by InfiniteEARTH, doubling your support for orangutans.
